Note, the following information, along with any updates, will be maintained on the Fannish Inquisition page under the Events tab.

Westercon 68 will be holding two “Fannish Inquisitions” where members can learn about, and ask questions of, bids for future Westercons and Worldcons, as well as the future seated Westercon and Worldcons.

The Westercon Fannish Inquisition will be on Friday, July 3, at 1:00pm.  The time for this inquisition will be broken down as follows:

  • Westercon 69 — 10 minutes
  • 2017 — 10 minutes (4 minutes presentation, 6 Q&A)
  • 2018 — 8 minutes (4 minutes presentation, 4 Q&A)
  • later — 5 minutes each

The Worldcon Fannish Inquisition will be on Friday, July 3, at 3:00pm and will have a two hour slot.  The time for this inquisition will be broken down as follows:

The Worldcon Fannish Inquisition will only be accepting written questions that can be screened by the moderators to ensure a smooth running session.  These can be submitted by paper at the inquisition or before, or by sending an email to inquisition@westercon68.org.   Written questions for the Westercon inquisition will also gladly be accept in advance at the same address, though questions from the floor will be entertained if there is time.

An HDMI projector & sound system available for use during the inquisition, along with all the usual dongles/converters (displayport, mini DVI, VGA-to-HDMI, etc.).  Neither inquisition will start more than 5 minutes late for testing the projector or other technical needs.  Any time taken setting up tech will be deducted from presentation time.

However, our AV team will have the projector available in the convention office in Terrace Salon 3 Friday morning to allow you to check out the setup and work it out with our AV team.  Also, the Westercon inquisition is likely to end early.  The rest of the slot will be available to work out AV issues.

The cut off date for requesting a fan table is June 15.  Please go to the Fan Tables page for more details.

The San Diego Blood Bank is now taking advanced appointments for the blood drive on Friday July 3.  We have also included information on how to collect the Blood Drive thank you gifts from San Diego Comic-Con International’s blood drive the following week.  Please see the Blood Drive page for more details.

We should have some updates regarding parties shortly.

A New Westercon 68 Guest of Honor

westercon68.org website work today [complete]

We’re switching hosting providers today and our websites may be inaccessible for brief periods during the transition.   Thank you for your patience!  UPDATE (1:13pm PDT):  The migration, previously thought complete, needed a few final tweaks.  Thanks to those to reported errors.

Parties

If you are interested in running a party, please contact our Parties Coordinators at parties@westercon68.org.

We have a limited number of suites available (probably to share), so sooner is better than later if you need one.  If you are doing a room party, we’d like to know about those as well.

Spider Robinson Cannot Attend

It is with great disappointment but complete understanding that Westercon must announce that Spider Robinson will not be able to fulfill his Guest of Honor commitment to the convention.  Spider wrote:

Tell folks I had to tap out due to recent undisclosed health problems.  That’s the shortest and truest I can say it.  If anybody argues, tell ‘em I’m 66, I’ve been hospitalized six times in the last six months, and we’re working on it.  And tell them I apologize.

Our thoughts and best wishes go with Spider for a speedy diagnosis and complete recovery.

William F. Nolan Horror Writers Society Grand Master

Another bit of news slipped passed us this last month:

Westercon 68 Special Guest, William F. Nolan was named A Grand Master of the World Horror Society last month, and will accept his award at this year’s World Horror Convention in Atlanta Georgia, May 7 through May 10.

We extend our (belated) congratulations to William F. Nolan.
