About SanSFiS and Conjecture

San Diego Speculative Fiction Society, Inc. (SanSFiS) is a group of fans working to promote the field of speculative fiction in all its genres (science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, etc.) and forms (books, movies, fanzines, drama, etc.) SanSFiS operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit educational corporation.

Our current activities center around operation and support of science fiction and fantasy conventions. Future plans include lectures, workshops, and other educational events and activities within the greater San Diego region. From its first year in 2010 through 2012, SanSFiS has sponsored Conjecture, World Fantasy 2011, and Westercon 68.

In addition to sponsoring Conjecture and Westercon 68, SanSFiS publishes the San Diego Fandom Index, a guide to fan activities in the greater San Diego area.  They also sponsored the 2011 World Fantasy Convention in San Diego.

Conjecture is a fan-run literary-focused speculative fiction convention in San Diego. The first Conjecture was held in the fall of 2002, and annually since except 2009.

Conjecture’s traditions include:

  • Iron Hack – An improvisational storytelling event, usually held in the evening.
  • Showcase Concert – a concert featuring a number of individual and group performers from in San Diego and southern California.
